The Hedgerow series is inspired by the hedgerow that runs along the border where my studio is located, untended for years. Hedgerows are mixtures of old and new growth, bits of wilderness that are homes and highways for various wildlife, ignored between parcels of what we find as useful properties. The pieces in the series explore the vines, often invasive, which grow there that, if not occasionally cut back, can choke other vegetation and new growth.
To me, these vines serve as metaphor for the issue of the diminshment and throttling of women's rights, a continuing struggle, with the blue interior without a bottom of each vessel expressing life and freedom.
