ABOUT
Irja Bodén (b. Sweden) ceramic sculptures feature stacked forms that are both embossed and layered, enhanced by a thick glazed surface. The work begins on the wheel, which transforms into abstract sculptures. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the State University of New York at Potsdam. Her work has been showcased in solo and group shows at venues such as the Al Held Foundation, Silvermine Galleries, Amos Eno Gallery, Courthouse Gallery, Hyde Collection, the Immigrant Artist Biennal, the Samuel Dorsky Museum, and other venues. Bodén is a recipient of residencies, including NES, Byrdcliffe, and Studios at MASS MoCA. She is an awardee of the 2024 Puffin Foundation grant. Bodén is a member of A.I.R. in Brooklyn, NY, and lives in the northern part of the Hudson Valley.
